Horray, we got an elliptical trainer! Well, it's not here yet, but we shopped for and purchased one today.
We started at Play It Again Sports in Soquel, after a breakfast at Sunrise, which we haven't been to in ages. The process went like this: We'd both try a couple, and A would bring out his phone and look up reviews. After a couple other shops, we ended up at the other Play it Again, over the hill. Since we were in my car, we couldn't pick it up, so we'll either have it delivered or take the truck over. So excited to start working out again. We realized we haven't been to the gym since we got the house... Ironically I just read that there was a stabbing at our usual gym yesterday. Fantastic.
Now I have to finish painting our gym! It's taking a bit longer than I thought. I came up from a break and told A: "Know what? I'm crazy." But he already knew that =)Current Mood: excited

I'm starting to enjoy my new commute. Granted, I've been mostly on 4 wheels lately. Yes, I know the cold is not an excuse, but still I'll point out that it was 23 degrees the other morning :) I'm looking forward to the summertime.
The one thing that really bothers me, though, is the bicyclists. They are a regular and real Nuisance.
I'm all for bicyclists' rights, proper bike lanes and paths, and for sharing the road, but I feel very strongly that they do not belong on Highway 9. Especially when they ride side-by-side and take up the middle of the lane. It's worse on the Saratoga side, for sure. I think a lot of people go up and come back down that side.
This morning I came up to a bicycle that was doing about 20mph, and there was no shoulder WHATSOEVER. Obviously I didn't want to sideswipe him, so I stayed back as we passed through several blind corners. He kept peeking back at me, but I don't feel that I was tailgating, just waiting for a safe spot to pass. Finally at a long straightaway I was able to pass him by going halfway across the double yellow. And what does he do?
Shakes his head at me! At me. What?? Annoyed that I passed him? Annoyed that I didn't pass him sooner? Annoyed that I gave the proper half-a-lane clearance? Annoyed that I exist? What?
Not a bike path!

I was walking into Safeway and there was a booth collecting donations for the troops. I was wearing my Vampires supporter shirt, and the girl at the booth came up to me: "I like your shirt, I'm with the Red Cross, too!"
Priceless =)

Apparently live birds are more fun than dead ones. I just took the second tiny bird outside. This one flew out on it's own. The first one, sadly, did not.
I really can't blame them, though, since I wave colored bird bits in front of them all the time. I saw the two of them looking intently out the window this afternoon, and I thought maybe Spook was just interested in the rain, since she was tiny the last time she saw rain. But no, there were a couple dozen of the little birds poking around our patio.

I didn't get one of Spook hanging halfway out the cat door, watching for something to pounce on, but it was very cute. Now she's zonked out on her little perch, after a rough day of tearing around the house like mad, and dashing out to grab the little birds.
Ahhh rain. |

Wow. Literally 20 seconds after I posted about Marms watching the rain, our power went out. It flickered a bit, then went out for good (until 3:30am). Amazing! It rains (really rain-drizzle) for 5 minutes, and we lose power.
Spook woke me up at 5 with insistent "I'm Bored!" mews. She wanted attention and entertainment, since she wasn't going out in the rain. Fortunately a big cardboard box with a catnip toy thrown in was enough entertainment for her.
A was gaming when the power cut, so his controller was doing this pathetic little blink: "hello? hello...? anybody?"
I was chatting with my brother, and I thought about sending a text back, but no, cell towers were unresponsive, too.
I have to say, though, I do love the smell of rain. And candles. Mmmm...
And, hopefully, with enough rain, we may be approaching the end of foxtail and burr season. Yay! I think Spook's the first long hair cat I've had.Current Mood: awake

So Marmalade was just peeking out the window by the cat door, shifting her head around jerkily and obviously VERY intent on something outside. I get up to turn on the porch light, expecting to see a big fat raccoon staring back, but I see instead that it's RAINING!
It's hard enough to make a noise, and it's confusing Marms, since she hasn't seen it in awhile =)Current Mood: chipper

I was really excited about my new evening class at West Valley, ceramics on the wheel. Monday was the first real day, and it was great to get to feel clay again. We threw cylinders and generally learned the basics. I never get tired of seeing a basic throwing instruction done well :) I got some good practice in, and was looking forward to the projects we'd be doing.
Then today I get an email stating that the class has been canceled for lack of attendance. Um, there were 17 students. There were only 18 working wheels, and 12 spaces for people at the wedging table. *scratches head* The instructor was told he needed 20 to keep the class (well, first he was told 15, then they changed it)
Lame.
As I stated in my letter to the admin people, I will not be returning to West Valley College.

Thanks, wyngdlyon, I hadn't seen this. Now I know of loldogs :)
Some of my favorites so far:
We gets a yard (Aw!!) Not listening! We have to talk... Tech support doggie Wait in line Driver's Ed doggEH
Bedtime now... 3 big raccoons are on the prowl again, but there's no sign of Spook, so I can't lock the door yet. Really considering one of the collar-activated doors, especially since it's been awhile now since Spook last "lost" her collar.
A couple nights ago Spook and Marms were both eating and drinking, and I flew out of bed because I was convinced that a raccoon had gotten in again.
Yay she came in after all, right after I typed that :)

I decided I wanted a blog, other than LJ, for keeping track of my craft and cooking ambitions. I like watching progress (and showing it off), so I decided to go for it. It's called All The Good Names Were Taken.
Just kidding (sort of), it's here at The Crazy Craftings.
One of my next big posts will be the wedding dress process, but that is going to take a little while to put together.
I also want to compile a list of my favorite crafty sites, along with a project wishlist, but that will also take more time.
